Sever's Disease
Or calcaneal apophysitis is an overuse syndrome in children aged 8 to 16 years old. It is a pulling apart injury where the Achilles tendon and Plantar fascia pull in opposite directions, usually in a growth spurts or with activity. Pain is experienced in the back and lower regions of the heel and limping is common on the sports field. Rest can relieve the pain. Your Podiatrist will manage this condition by reducing inflammation, advising on footwear and prescribing appropriate orthotics.
