Arthritis
Arthritis of the foot is inflammation of the cartilage and lining of any of the 33 joints. The weight and pressure that your feet are subjected to everyday makes your foot more susceptible to arthritis. Leading causes are increased weight, injury to the foot, infections and inherited factors. Symptoms are swelling, pain, redness and heat, morning stiffness and restricted movement. Our Podiatrists understand the effects of inflammation and degeneration and can reduce the amount of discomfort associated with arthritic feet. This is mainly done by correct shoe advice, and prescribing supportive orthotics to improve cushioning and provide shock absorption and direct pressure away from the more sensitive areas of the feet. They will also treat skin lesions such as corns and callouses created by the joint deformity increasing pressure on the feet. Increased comfort is the goal.
